What is the "Gathering"?
The Gathering began in 1998.
Don Cameron, then the owner
of Deming Cycle Center, invited his loyal customers and friends to a BBQ
at his
and his wife Mary Lou's home outside of Deming. In 2000 Don sold the business but he
continued to invite his motorcycle friends to his home each Veteran's
Day. The members of IBMWR, (The
internet BMW Riders) the LDRIDERS
(Long distance Riders) and members of
SEAT, (South East Arizona
Touring Riders) which many of Don's friends were members, used
this Gathering as an excuse for a ride and a chance to socialize with a
group of serious motorcycle riders. As it is held on Veterans day
weekend it is also a tribute to all veterans, those that ride to the
event and those that are less fortunate. Over the years it has grown
into an event that Don's old friends and new friends do not want to
miss.
Everyone is invited. If you are not a friend of Don's you will be soon. The event is open to all models of motorcycles. It is limited to the first 175 people that register and pay. You get a great BBQ and drinks for only $10.
It can be very cold in Deming in November in the evening. There is a big fire but bring warm riding gear. There are soft drinks, wine and beer available. There is also a drawing for door prizes.
"Cameron Estates" will be available for those desiring overnight floor space (first come, first serve), yard space is available for camping. In Deming, motels are plentiful, very inexpensive and within 3 miles of Don's home.

Deryle & Wanda Mehrten have helped Don organize and execute the event each year. It has also been a tribute to our friend Rob Lentini following his untimely death. Steve Aikens was one of the organizers for several years.
